Each Watts Lights 30mm puck has 3 LEDs each with a red, green, blue, and luxurious warm white channel.
Watts Lights has worked closely with the Alberta’s Chief Electrical Inspector to engineer a lighting system that is classified as a Class 2 Device. This means that not only are all the individual components of a Watts Lights permanent Christmas light system individually ETL certified, but the product is CSA Approved as a whole for installation without requiring an electrical permit.
We most commonly install these lights on 9″ spacing in the aluminum channel. As one of the brightest products on the market, this is the preferred spacing for the majority of our customers.
However! We also offer 6″ spacing if you’d like to maximize the brightness of your installation.
Each installation requires a controller box, which is a weatherproof enclosure that houses both a 12 volt power supply, and the Watts 2.0 controller, the brain of the system.
The controller box has a three prong cord that plugs into an available outlet on your house. Easy!
From the controller on, all the power is super safe 12 Volt DC current.
No! Watts permanent Christmas Lights are cloud connected, allowing you to control your lights anywhere your mobile device has internet access.
As an added benefit, the Watts cloud servers are located in a secure room at the Watts Head Office in Calgary, ensuring your data is only passing through Canadian servers.
As with most things a lot of the effort is in the preparation. We need to measure carefully, swatch your trim, and order colour matched aluminum channel that will look great on your home. We plan and we prep ahead of time so most of our installs are completed in a single day of on-site time.
The maximum potential power consumption of an individual light is 0.72 watts. With them being on a 9″ spacing that comes out to a little less than 1 watt per foot. So if you have a 150 foot installation the most power the lights can use is 150 watts. In order to use the maximum power the lights need to have their brightness turned to 100% and need to be displaying a pure white colour that uses all 4 colour channels in the puck. Most homeowners don’t use that specific max power colour across their install all the time, so actual consumption tends to be about half that.
These are very efficient lights to run. Most installations will cost under $5/month in power.
The Watts 2.0 App is free forever. You can download it without even owning Watts Lights. It just doesn’t do much without lights to control.
The only ongoing cost for the lighting system is the power they use, and they don’t use much.
